The Colonnade is a Grade II listed building located on the seafront, erected to commemorate the coronation of King George V. It is an important historic structure that contributes to the Edwardian character of the area. Recent refurbishment works have addressed issues of water ingress and involved careful repairs to the render, balustrade, and other architectural features using traditional materials such as Roman Cement. Breathable mineral paints have been applied to allow the building fabric to dry naturally, preventing future damage. The project also included restoration of metalwork with heritage-approved coatings to protect against rust. The Colonnade’s conservation has been overseen by specialist contractors experienced in historic building preservation, ensuring that the repairs respect the building’s original design and materials. This work helps maintain the Colonnade’s role as a key element of the seafront’s historic environment.
